Michele Bachmann pledges she’ll build a border across the entire U.S./Mexico border, and referenced President Obama’s aunt living in the U.S. illegally.

Christ has it ever struck these people that a wall isn’t necessarily to keep people out, but rather to keep us in? Of course these sociopathic war-mongering fascists probably want the wall for that exact purpose.

I think the more amusing (well, obvious, is probably a better word) question is: do any of them realize how much that would cost? I think I read it would exceed $1 million/mile (I don’t think that lower limit would even pay for a reasonably tall/deep/resilient/foreboding/fire-breathing fence, like a good, angry Republican would expect, either). And, I hate to break it to them, but if these human beings (I think this quality escapes many pro-fencers, the whole ‘these are human beings,’ thing) are willing to go through miles of desert with insufficient food and water, leave their families for months, even years, at a time, pay thousands of dollars to hitch a ride with drug- and human-traffickers that might very well leave them to die in a van, and otherwise risk their life on a daily basis, I really doubt they’re going to see a fence and say, “Oh, you got me!  I guess I’ll turn around. I was planning on doing heavy labour in 100+ degree weather for hours on end in Texas, but a fence? Inconceivable!”

Now the reason I really reblogged this: Bachmann, that white, double-breasted jacket is clean. It’s as if JCrew produced a line of GOPreppy business wear. Whoa. For a moment there I was somewhat endeared to the Republican party; I am such a tool.

This has me thinking I should go ahead and just be Sarah Palin again for Halloween this year (Bachman looks like Palin: rehab edition and frankly, at least Palin fought big oil; she gets a lot of crap from everyone, but she’s not completely horrible). I don’t plan costumes in advance, nor have I ever constructed one before October 30th. That’s probably why I’ve gone as Hermione ~6x, Peter Pan ~5x (I had to learn the hard way when I was like 14 that after puberty, you are too tall to wear a normal-sized pillowcase as a tunic), a few Disney princesses in early childhood (I remember being the girl from Hercules) and a dog ~3x (though that was infancy, so I take no responsibility).

2012 New Hampshire Primary Straw Poll

libertarians:

The results are in.

Ron Paul (66%, 2,336 Votes)

Jon Hunstman (8%, 274 Votes)

Hermain Cain (5%, 166 Votes)

Michele Bachmann (4%, 145 Votes)

Mitt Romney (4%, 139 Votes)

Rick Perry (4%, 132 Votes)

Newt Gingrich (4%, 129 Votes)

Rick Santourm (4%, 128 Votes)

Gary Johnson (1%, 77 Votes)

Everyone in my Electoral Politics class laughed when I said, “Ron Paul” as we were going around the room responding to the question, “Who do you think will win the GOP primaries?” Yes, they literally laughed at me. Well, the first time the question was posed, after a previous debate, earlier in the semester, I responded with “Romney” (honestly, being from Texas and seeing how big of a joke Perry is in his own state, I never expected the attention he ended up getting). But Paul is polling extremely well, despite his extremely skewed airtime and the insanely low quality and relevance of the questions he has been posed. That is impressive.

That, comrades, is a grassroots movement.
