Explosions in the Sky Your Hand in Mine
One of my favourite songs of all time, from one of my favourite native Austin bands (Explosions is fantastic live; 4-5x just isn’t enough).

Seriously, think about the children. Imagine how screwed up the moral foundations of the generation growing up with laws like this would be.
Is piracy really 25% more deplorable than murder?
This is one of the only songs that puts me on the verge of tears virtually every time I listen to it; personally, I’d say that it’s the most powerful song I’ve ever heard. Josh Ritter is more folksy than anything else I normally listen to—certainly more religious than I can normally handle—but his lyrics are really just beautiful, especially those about war and resistance, specifically this one and ‘Girl in the War’. I heavily recommend this, especially if you have an appreciation for folk and/or anti-war music.
I never thought I’d post music to my blog, but I was walking my dogs and this came on shuffle. Gives me chills every time I hear it.
[…] God’s up there, he’s in a cold, dark room […] He bent down and made the world in seven days / And ever since, he’s been a’walkin’ away […] It’s a Bible or a bullet they put over your heart / It’s getting harder and harder to tell them apart […] And those still looking in the clear blue sky for a sign / Get missiles from so high they might as well be divine […] And now the dogs are howlin’ at your door / Singin’ ‘bout vengeance like it’s the joy of the lord […] You need faith for the same reasons that it’s so hard to find […] It’s hell to believe there ain’t a hell of a chance […]
